Epik utilizes HECO, which uses a modified HPoS (Hybrid Proof of Stake) based consensus mechanism, a hybrid on-and-off chain system that minimizes overhead, thus incurring less gas and less energy usage for every transaction that occurs on the Epik system, using 0.02 kWh of energy per chain transaction compared to Ethereum’s 30 kWh and Bitcoin’s 657 kWh.
